Alonso, Driscoll Tie in GOP Vote for Senate Race

Fernando Alonso of Oradell and former Freeholder John Driscoll of Paramus will now take part in a second vote next week to determine who will challenge Sen. Bob Gordon this fall

For two Bergen County politicians, the road to challenge District-38 Sen. Bob Gordon has been made a little longer after this week's County Republican convention resulted in a tie.

Fernando Alonso of Oradell and former Freeholder John Driscoll of Paramus each received 120 votes according to a northjersey.com report. County Chairman Bob Yudin stated in an nj.com report that the tie may be the first in the organization's history.

Alonso and Driscoll had previously earned the party line during the 2011 election for state Assembly and Senate respectively. Both men, along with running mate Richard Goldberg of Hawthorne, conceded the November race to Gordon, Assemblywoman Connie Wagner and now-Assemblyman Timothy Eustace.

A second vote is scheduled for March 14 by the GOP committee members and elected officials in the district, which includes parts of Bergen and Passaic counties.

District 38 includes Bergenfield, Fair Lawn, Glen Rock, Hasbrouck Heights, Hawthorne, Lodi, Maywood, New Milford, Oradell, Paramus, River Edge, Rochelle Park, and Saddle Brook.

Baratta/Trawinski have been pushing for Driscoll at the bcro. In 2011 the Record called Driscoll a "weak candidate".
If he wins the line Gordon is going to chew him up.

Driscoll will be dropping out of the race. He is a complete disgrace. His Tea Party rantings and then his cuts in Autism funding, his failure to even vote in either way to disband the BC Police Dept is a disgrace...

Driscoll is a putz. His cocky attitude, and indecisiveness are two things that the state do not need, as well as the county, and as Paramus showed; nor do they. Dump this loser!

...and Alonso is no better. He's bully who thinks he can push people around because he's a "lawyer." Although he'd have to be more effective than Councilwoman Alonso is on the Oradell Town Council. Maybe not.
