Police Find Weapons Arsenal in Paramus Home

When Paramus and Bogota police arrive at the home of Leonard Eng to arrest him for harassing and stalking a Bogota man, what they found was an arsenal of weapons in his home.

Police found Leonard Eng asleep in his Shelby Avenue home Thursday, with a fully-loaded 9mm handgun under his pillow and another on his nightstand, as well as an arsenal of assault rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition scattered around the house.

Paramus and Bogota officers arrived at the home shortly after 1 a.m. to arrest Eng for allegedly repeatedly threatening to kill a Bogota man.

Eng, 43, who was in a family court hearing earlier in the month for a case involving his former wife and the Bogota man, allegedly harrassed and stalked the man at his Bogota home, said Bogota Police. He allegedly said in court that if police responded to his home, there would be "two dead Paramus cops."

According to Brock, officers summoned Eng to the front door when they first arrived. When Eng did not answer, police peered through a basement window and observed numerous assault rifles on a table.

Paramus Police officers Daniel Cullen, Gregg Hooper, and a Bogota detective entered Eng's home and he resisted arrest. After a physical struggle, Eng was handcuffed and taken into custody.

Police found two bags of high capacity, fully loaded firearm magazines, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. They also found, three military-type ammunition boxes containing thousands of rounds of ammunition in the kitchen.

Eng also possessed a semi-automatic handgun in his bed, and a revolver-type handgun on a night stand next to his bed.

Officers later found a fully-loaded 9 mm handgun below Eng's pillow. Eng was transported to Paramus police headquarters for processing.

After assessing all the weapons seized, authorities found Eng possessed five long-barrel firearms, three handgun firearms, and over 3,500 rounds of ammunition.

He also possessed assorted firearms equipment including scopes, slings, manuals, ammunition cans, holsters, magazines, rifle stocks, tactical vest, and a backpack.

A 90-round capacity 5.56 drum magazine was also seized.

Criminal complaints against Eng include possession of large capacity magazines and possession of assault firearms.

Eng was released Thursday from Bergen County jail after he posted the $50,000 bail set by Paramus Municipal Judge Anthony Gallina, and $15,000 for the Bogota charges.

The case is still under investigation and Paramus Police anticipate further criminal complaints.
