New York Woman Accused of Selling Counterfeit Bracelets in Plaza

A New York woman was arrested Tuesday on charges of selling counterfeit merchandise at .

Claudia Lozon of Wesley Hills, N.Y., is the owner of two kiosks at the Plaza that sell Power Balance Bracelets. According to the Power Balance website, the bracelets use hologram technology to "resonate with and respond to the  natural energy field of the body," and thereby increase athletic performance.

On Dec. 2, a representative from the company contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office. The representative said the bracelets being sold at the Plaza did not contain the patented "Power Balance Performance Hologram Technology" and had been purchased from China for 5 cents apiece, the BCPO said in a release.

The wrist bands sell for $29.95 on the Power Balance website.

Law enforcement personnel conducted surveillance of the kiosk and purchased the alleged counterfeit bracelets, the release said. When it was deemed they were counterfeit, police executed search warrants for both kiosks and Lozon's home, seizing more than 2,000 alleged counterfeit bracelets, reports said.

Lozon, 46, was arrested and charged with sale of counterfeit merchandise, a second-degree crime. The Power Balance company lost hundreds of thousands of dollars through the sale of the alleged counterfeits, the release said.
