Paramus Man Killed in Bicycle Accident

Andrew Capizzi, 24, was a graduate of Paramus High School and a noted athlete.

A Paramus man was killed Sunday after he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle on a Burlington County road, state police said Monday. 

Andrew Capizzi, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Sergeant Brian Polite.

Cops said Capizzi was riding northbound on Route 563 when he attempted to make a U-turn, turning into the path of a Volvo which was also traveling northbound.

The accident remains under investigation and no charges have been filed, said Polite.

The female driver of the Volvo was taken to the Lourdes Emergency Center in Browns Mills for complaints of neck and back pain, said Polite.

Capizzi, known locally as an accomplished athlete, had been warming up for a bicycle race, according to an NJ.com report.

He was a member of the Paramus High School Class of 2007. In 2011, he won the borough's Marty Roemer Memorial 10-kilometer, the first borough resident to win in more than a decade.

Capizzi worked as an assistant track team coach for Holy Angels School in Demarest, according to an obituary on Vander Platt Memorial Home's website.
