Paramus Road Mosque Hearing Postponed Again

New Zoning Board hearing date set for late April.

Due to a lack of quorum Thursday night, the Zoning Board hearing on the proposed Paramus Road mosque and multicultural center was pushed off until April.

Zoning Board Attorney Stuart Platt told the audience the hearing will be rescheduled for April 25. A number of the board members had illnesses and other issues which prevented them from being able to make the meeting Thursday, Platt told the audience.

The hearing was to pick up from the last hearing back in November.

The Muslim Multicultural Center seeks to occupy a previously approved but not yet constructed office building on Paramus Road as a mosque and multicultural center. The footprint of the proposed building has not changed from the original plan for an office building which was given the green light by the Zoning Board back in 2008.

At the November hearing testimony regarding the plans mainly focused on parking. The ground level has been altered in order to include five more parking spaces bringing the total to 61. A variance is sought as borough code calls for 69 spaces.

The three story building would consist of a common lobby area on the ground floor, a second-floor worship area for women and a third-floor worship area for men.

The hearing is set for Thursday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m. in council chambers.
