Paramus drivers may soon have an electronic eye on them at certain stoplights.

The Borough is weighing whether to implement a red light camera program.

Borough Administrator Joseph D'Arco said officials are reviewing which intersections would make the best spot for the cameras. The Borough has met with one of the two companies in the state that offer the program.

The state has approved red light cameras in 25 municipalities as a pilot program, Borough Attorney Brian Giblin said. There is a backlog of 40 communities that are signed up to participate in the program, but the Department of Transportation hasn't moved to expand the pilot yet.

Charles Scaleri, a representative from American Traffic Solutions, one of the two companies providing red light cameras to communities in New Jersey, made a presentation at a Mayor and Council work session in October. He said the cameras drastically reduce violations.

The American Traffic Solutions program costs nothing to the town, but the company takes a cut of each ticket.
