Paramus Boy Scout Troop 138 worked on their Golfing Merit Badge at the PGA Superstore on Route 17. At this amazing facility in the heart of Paramus, the boys were taught safety, etiquette, equipment, and the general rules. In addition to learning the skills of golf, they boys learned that it's not just a sport for grey-haired retirees and many of the boys vowed to come back because they had so much fun.
The staff was awesome! Dividing the boys into smaller groups allowed the professionals to go over each skill in detail as well as to personalize the assistance to each boy. The technology within the facility allowed the boys to see their golf swing in slow motion to determine corrections. They also played on an electronic driving range for improvements on their long game. Not only did the boys receive general tips to improve their game, but the staff took appropriate care to work with each boy at their individual level of skill. This helped the game feel less intimidating and by the end of the night every boy was able to make a successful putt and drive.
Of course all work and no play makes little Johnny Boy Scout a dull boy. So, the boys had a ton of fun with creating competitive games between the patrols. In fact, one boy won the contest of the longest drive and the PGA Superstore offered him a gift certificate prize! Not only was the staff helpful as professional golfers, but one in fact joined us in the Scout Law and Oath at the closing ceremony.
As an added bonus, all the boys were given a coupon for discounts within the store. From the looks on their faces on the way out the door, it would appear the store will have a new generation of customers! This was a great night for boys of every age group and the PGA Superstore sure showed us their desire to be a member of our community.
