Sixth Annual Ron Mazurek Memorial Concert Featuring Composer and Author Joel Chadabe
Composer and Author Joel Chadabe is an internationally recognized pioneer in the development of interactive music systems. He will perform at Bergen Community College’s “Ars Electronica 2013: Voyages of the Hero” on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. in the Anna Maria Ciccone Theatre on the College’s main campus in Paramus.
The Ars Electronica concert series is an annual event that pays tribute to the late Dr. Ron Mazurek, a dedicated Bergen Community College faculty member who touched countless lives as a musician and associate professor of music.
Mr. Chadabe has performed at venues and festivals throughout the world with musicians such as Jan Williams and Bruno Sperri. As president of Intelligent Music, a research and development company, from 1983 to 1994, he was responsible for the development and publication of a wide range of innovative and historically important software.
As the author of “Electric Sound: The Past and Promise of Electronic Music,” Mr. Chadabe’s book presented a comprehensive overview of the history of electronic music. His articles have appeared in publications including Organized Sound, Computer Music Journal, and Electronic Musician.
Mr. Chadabe is professor emeritus at State University of New York at Albany, director of the Computer Music Studio at Manhattan School of Music, visiting faculty member at New York University and founder and president of the Electronic Music Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that organizes concerts and disseminates information relating to the history and current practice of electronic music.

Paramus is home to the main campus of Bergen Community College. Founded in 1965, the college enrolls almost 17,000 students in its academic degree programs. The school is familiar to many Paramus children, who visit the Buehler Challenger Science Center on campus in middle school.
