More than 600 people took to the track at Paramus High School to walk in support of a loved one or friend battling cancer, someone who lost the fight, or someone is fighting back.

During the opening ceremonies, DiPasquale told all that the 12 hours would symbolize what a day in the life of a person with cancer is like.

Participants heard personal accounts like Nikki Molfestos who shared that is 2-years cancer free after having been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.

Danielle Manis, who headed up the Caregivers walk, told all she is a cheerleader every single day as she's had to be one for her son, her husband and for her father.

"I am so very proud and honored to be a caregiver. It is the most difficult job in the world becaue you have to be strong, you have to be patient, you have to be kind, you have to be there with the tissue," said Manis.

"Every single one of you here right now are considerd a caregiver," she told the participants.

"Relay for Life is so much more than just waking around a track and staying up all night.  It's a chance for a communtiy to make a difference, remember those we lost and to celebrate who have survived," said Denise Anderson, vice president of the American Cancer Society and Paramus resident.

Dozens upon dozens of survivors were recognized with medals and the group took the first lap of the night followed by the Caregivers group.

Teams representing various groups in the community took to the track along with others named in support of a loved one.

Tents were set up near the field where teams set up fundraisers and activities for participants to do during the night.
