BB Gun Causes Scare at Garden State Plaza

Clifton teen claimed he brought firearm to mall because he was afraid of other shoppers, according to report.

An 18-year-old Clifton man was arrested Friday night after carrying a BB gun to the Garden State Plaza, Paramus Police said.

Devin Rivera was charged with possession of an imitation firearm for an unlawful purpose. Rivera claimed he had the gun tucked into his waistband because he was afraid of others at the mall, according to NJ.com.

A Paramus police officer spotted Rivera with the gun on the mall's lower level near Macy's at about 8:30 p.m.

A 20-year-old Teaneck man opened fire in the mall in November with a modified rifle, injuring no one before committing suicide.
