Martino Becomes First Woman Chief of Detectives at Bergen Prosecutor's Office

Carmen Martino will also be the first Hispanic woman to lead any New Jersey prosecutor's office.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office will swear in its first female chief of detectives on Monday.

Acting Chief Carmen Martino will also be the first Hispanic woman in New Jersey law enforcement history to lead a prosecutor's office. She'll be sworn in at the Law and Public Safety Institute in Mahwah at 4 p.m. Monday.

Martino has more than 24 years of law enforcement experience in criminal investigations. She began her law enforcement career on July 30, 1990, devoting the early part of her career to undercover narcotics work as a detective in Bergen County.

Martino's expertise includes homicide, sex crimes, money laundering, burglary, organized crime and narcotics investigations.

Martino was promoted to sergeant in October 2003, to lieutenant in April 2005 and became the first woman captain at the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office in October 2009. She will be the first Hispanic woman in the history of New Jersey law enforcement to lead a Prosecutor’s Office.
