New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has been running things for quite some time, but it’s all been in the political realm.

But could he run a sports team?

The two-term Republican governor sat in with WFAN radio’s Boomer & Carton morning show Friday, and said, “I would love to be general manager of the Mets,” according to the radio station’s website.

Christie said if current general manager Sandy Alderson left the team, he’d “be happy to go right now if they needed me.”

The governor is an unabashed Mets fan and played baseball himself at Livingston High School. The New York Mets are currently in fourth place in the National League East division and have not made the playoffs since 2006.

Well, he was the guy with the solutions. He had a plan. He was going to point us in the right direction. He was going to be the grownup. Well, guess what? He's abandoned that - conveniently after re-election now that his higher ambitions have fizzled. I'll give Sarah Palin this much, when she got bored of having a job that she wasn't up to doing, she quit. But that Christie would have the integrity to do the same.

Would you not say the same thing about the leaders in the state legislature and the last six or seven Governors, Mel?

Yes, but why would I need to? You people elected the worst possible candidates for decades because they promised you cotton candy and pony rides. Fact is, most NJ residents should've had their right to vote revoked after casting ballots for Whitman and Corzine.

I imagine you voted for CC, as did I. Can you honestly tell me you aren't disappointed? And this has zero to do with the shenanigans at the GW.

I did in '09 and did not on '013 because I was, in fact, disappointed. The GW Bridge incident had nothing to do with my decision and I believe had very little to do with the results of the most recent gubernatorial election.
