Paramus Man Shot, Suspects Flee on Motorcycle

Paramus police are asking anyone with information on the shooting of 33-year-old Ilkay Karayel to come forward.

Paramus police are searching for two men who allegedly fled from a shooting that left one man with a bullet wound to the chest Wednesday night.

According to Paramus Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg, 33-year-old Paramus resident Ilkay Karayel was walking along Pascack Road near Oradell Avenue at around 10 p.m. when two men on motorcycles confronted him. One of the men pulled out a handgun and fired several shots, striking Karayel once in the chest, Ehrenberg said.

The suspects reportedly fled on the bike southbound on Pascack Road. Karayel ran home and hitched a ride to Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, where he is listed in stable condition, according to Ehrenberg.

Paramus detectives searched the area near Mariner's Bank and found multiple shell casings.
